BARBADIANS?are being encouraged to add the lionfish to their platters.
And on Saturday afternoon a number of local top chefs will be teaching members of the public how to prepare this spiny species when the Coastal Zone Management Unit holds a fish derby at Harbour Lights on Bay Street, St Michael.
This was announced yesterday by marine biologist Caroline Bissada, during a news conference called to give an update on the predatory fish that threaten reefs and marine life.
Bissada added that the lionfish initiative would also include fishermen and divers competing for lionfish catches from sunrise to 1 p.m. They will receive various prizes for having the biggest catch, the smallest and the biggest fish, and so on.
