After more than 120 years offering primary education for boys and girls from three to 11 years and secondary schooling for girls only, the Ursuline Convent School (UCS) will provide secondary education for boys for the first time from the next school year in September.
The Ursuline Convent School (UCS) – St Angela’s, and UCS – St Ursula’s will now be joined by the UCS – St Francis, a separate department for boys.
The male students will be housed temporarily at the St Dominic’s Pastoral Centre, Maxwell, Christ Church, until permanent facilities are ready.
News of this was revealed by school administrator Susan Chinnery during an exclusive interview with the WEEKEND NATION. Chinnery made it clear that the St Ursuline Convent “is not going co-educational”, thus the need for a separate location from the all-girls department which is located at Collymore Rock, St Michael.
She said the new department would seek to realise the dreams of parents for their sons, including seeing boys reach their full potential academically, emotionally and physically, and becoming successful and independent thinkers. She said parents would also witness their sons “become net contributors to society as decent, caring and responsible human beings”.
