Noble Intent takes first gem

Count one for owner trainer John D. Chandler and his colt Nobel Intent in their quest to become Barbados’ next Triple Crown winner.
Yesterday before a fair-sized crowd at the Garrison Savannah in ideal racing conditions, the combination, along with jockey Antonio Bishop easily won the 64th Barbados Guineas Grade I for West Indian-bred three-year-olds over 1 570 metres (allotted weights).
The colt effortlessly ran his opposition into the ground from the start in taking the first jewel of the Triple Crown. The roughly run race saw lots of jostling throughout but never involved Nobel Intent, who brought the field under pressure immediately after the start.
That performance landed jockey Bishop the Bubba’s Sunday Buffet Breakfast Ride Of The Day. Voldermort, under rider Kyle Carter, ran a game race to secure the second position, while In The Pink ridden by Reshawn Latchman finished quickly on the outside to galvanize third. Belly Dancer ran her best race to date under the urgings of jockey Kenny John, to finish a respectable fourth.
Champion jockey Anderson Trotman continued his excellent form in the saddle as he crafted out three winners on the day.
He started with Stanton French owned three-year-old filly Kamazetta in the Pride Of Iran Handicap for West Indian-bred three-year-old maidens over 1 570 metres.
That was followed up by a win on Reward Me in the Maisons Laffitte Handicap for three-year-old-and-older horses over 1 570 metres, his second winner for his contracted Hopefield Stable.
Trotman surprisingly sent the seven-year-old bay horse to the lead for the first time in his racing career, opening as many as eight lengths on his competition going down the back-stretch, after which the race became a foregone conclusion.
In the nightcap, Trotman was patient after breaking on top before producing Papa Gone West to land the Faerie Queene Handicap for four-year-old-and-older maidens over 1 000 metres.
There were four other individuals who, like Sir David Seale, recorded double success on the second day of the second season card.
The combination of owners Bill and Hayley Blevins, trainer Jonathon Simpson and rider Reshawn Latchman teamed up with their charges Giovedi and Janak’s Gold.
Giovedi upset the field at odds of 20 to one to take the Apostle Handicap for four-year-old-and-older horses rated 140-122 and also open to horses rated 121 and below over 1 800 metres, while the latter won the Happy Lion Handicap for three year-old-and-older horses rated 85-67 and also open to horses rated 66 and below over 1 570 metres.
Devil’s Khandy, owned by Team Po Po, won the Maisons Laffitte Handicap Division B event to add to Kamazetta’s win and give trainer William Clarke his double joy.
The next race day is Saturday, June 14.
