There has?never been any animosity between Barbados and Guyana, a senior Roman Catholic priest said yesterday as he expressed a wish for enduring harmonious relations.
Speaking at an inter-faith church service to commemorate Guyana’s 48th year of Independence, Monsignor Vincent Blackett told a well-attended service at the St Patrick’s Cathedral that the two nations had a good relationship cemented by the church.
These views were also endorsed by Guyana’s consul general Michael Brotherson during his remarks to the congregation, which included Guyanese living here.
In recalling the story of relationships between the two countries, Vincent chided those who made negative remarks like “these Guyanese”.
“I want to impress upon the Barbadians that Barbados benefited tremendously in the past and continues to benefit from the relationship between Barbados and Guyana.” (JS)
