DEAR CHRISTINE: Daughter waiting around for Mr Right

Dear Christine,
You will probably tell me to mind my business, but I’ll state my case anyway.
My daughter is 30 years old and is still waiting for Mr Right to come along. I know that he’s not just around the corner. I don’t think he’s even anywhere in the island, and I’ve told her this, based on her particulars.
She keeps telling me not to pressure her, and I know I should not, but I just want her to be happy. She says maybe she cannot fall in love with anybody. Is that possible?
To my knowledge, she’s never been really hurt in any romantic way. I just don’t understand why she has to be so particular. There’s no perfect person in the world and I think she ought to be old enough to know that.

Dear M.P.,
Are you saying that your daughter must settle for anyone who comes along rather than perhaps someone with the qualities she is looking for ?
Do you have any indications that she is unhappy? I have to ask because it is possible that she may be contented with her life just being single. You may be projecting what “happiness” means to you on to your daughter and that’s not fair.
Being paired is not necessarily right for everyone. You must face up to the fact that there are people who are incapable of “falling in love”. Some have such deep emotional blocks they are unable to trust enough to give themselves to another.
Others who have no difficulty falling in love may choose to remain single.
This is not always the case, but usually, when a woman who is looking for a preconceived ideal mate actually falls in love, she attributes those characteristics assigned to “Mr Right” to the object of her affection even though he may actually be nothing at all like her view of Prince Charming.
Think about this and stop worrying about your daughter.
– CHRISTINE
