A rise in obesity among school children has been blamed partly on less home cooking.
Dr Kenneth George, senior medical officer in the Ministry of Health, suggested the absence of home cooked meals was one of the reasons why more than 30 per cent of school students had been deemed obese.
He told the MIDWEEK NATION the problem was highlighted in a recent study and needed to be addressed.
George was speaking at the Dining Club, Newton, where the National Nutrition Centre staged a cooking session for students of Milton Lynch Primary and Christ Church Girls’ schools.
“The obesity rate in our children is way too high,”?he said.
