A circus-like territorial bidding battle for Test cricket matches in the Caribbean should be no-balled.
And Minister of Sport, Stephen Lashley is bowling for a change in the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) policy for the allocation of Test matches.
He acknowledged that Government had supported the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) bid for one of the three Test matches during England’s tour to the Caribbean to be held at Kensington Oval, and said CARICOM’s Sub-Committee On Cricket should also come to the crease on the issue.
“We did assist in the bidding process [but] I must admit that as far as I can recall, this is the first time that we’ve had so much of a bidding process put in place by the West Indies Cricket Board,” the minister said as he addressed the Editors’ Forum at the NATION’s Fontabelle, St Michael offices on Wednesday.
“I must indicate some concerns that I have in relation to that move towards a bidding process in terms of the English cricket series but they [WICB] have asked for a bidding process and the BCA has actually complied and submitted a bid,” he noted.
