A FIRST?half strike from the dreadlocked Stephen “Chicken” Simmons proved to be the match winner as Stag Bayland captured the Hennessy Barbados Masters football knockout finals, which climaxed at the Empire Ground, Bank Hall, on Sunday.
The goal from Simmons saw Bayland defeating defending champs HLF Pinelands 1-0 in front of a large crowd, which seemed equally divided in support. After the first half both teams made a number of exciting and threatening attacks, with
Bayland looking to increase their lead while Pinelands searched in vain for the equaliser.
In the end, neither team could penetrate the other’s defence in the second half. Goal scorer Simmons was chosen as MVP of the knockout phase. (KB)
