THE SECOND INSTALMENT of the Sagicor Visionaries Challenge got started today with a teacher’s workshop held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre to sensitise local schools to the framework and expectations of the competition.
Delivering the featured address was Minister of Education Ronald Jones who said local students had the brain power, intellect and capacity to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at the highest levels, but they had to be given a chance to explore their potential.
“We need to bring the talent out of our university, community colleges, polytechnics and schools and use that massive capacity of talent and the intent that is built into them to truly transform Caribbean civilisations, development and society,” he said.
The Sagicor Visionaries Challenge is being conducted by Sagicor Life Inc., the Caribbean Science Foundation and the Caribbean Examinations Council.
It encourages students to solve problems of sustainability in their schools and communities through science, technology, engineering and mathematics. (LK)
