CHURCH leaders and members across the island have been urged to unite and work together to reach the lost and build the Kingdom of God.
This message came from Apostle Dr David Weimer, founder of the Caribbean Mission Bible School and partner of Kingsway Fellowship International Ministries, during a recently held combined service comprising ministers of Kingsway Fellowship International (Barbados) and students of the Caribbean Mission Bible School, headed by Dean Dr Ron Hercules. The service was held at the Church of God of Prophecy in Cave Hill, St Michael.
Preaching that unification brings strength and that the harvest [souls] and the church belong to God and not any human being, Weimer said: “If we [members of the body of Jesus Christ] are labourers together with God [1 Corinthians 3:9), we must work together with Him and with each other.
“We are God’s husbandry . . . . He is the Senior Partner, the one who calls the shots, sends the messenger to cry out and sends help . . . .
“We have the responsibility to listen to what He has to say and do what He says to do. We are God’s building and if the foundation is not laid properly the building will not stand,” said Weimer, who first came to the Caribbean during the 1990s to establish Bible schools.
A planter of churches and pastor to many pastors, the United States-based preacher reminded pastors and ministry leaders that “people are not always in the right church at the right time getting the right food, so sometimes they come to your congregation and you must repair what has been broken in their lives”.
He urged them to be aware of the needs of others, including their fellow ministers, and to make a difference wherever they go.
“It is important for us as ministers of Kingsway Fellowship to make a difference where we are because Jesus came to make a difference. He did not quit when He was not accepted, and He desires to build [His character] in us. Every successful ministry is one that has set its heart on making a difference,” Weimer said.
He added most people with needs “do not come inside the walls of a church”, and believers in Christ must therefore make a difference each time they step out into the world. He said the world must first see unity among believers if they are to reach the lost.
Weimer also stressed that small assemblies would hardly make a difference in their community if they worked alone. But by partnering with other churches “they can make a difference and share in the differences”.
“When we partner together it intensifies the commitment to one another, solidifies new alliances, and testify of God’s love, mission and unity in the Body of Christ.”
He reminded the ministers that their lifestyles must correspond with that of the Gospel and urged them to effect change in their society by addressing societal concerns.
“As children of God we are meant to address problems in our society. The church is meant to be a change agent. If things are not going well in the society it means the church is not living up to its role.”
Weimer and his wife Sandra were on a six-day visit during which they taught and preached at Kingsway Fellowship International partner churches across the island.
