ERDISTON TEACHERS TRAINING College should have a Bachelors of Education degree programme in place by 2016.
Making the announcement this morning, Minister of Education Ronald Jones said the innovation at Barbados’ main teacher-training institution was part of a major programme of transformation taking place over the next three years in response to the country’s present education needs.
Jones said the Ministry was striving to have teachers come to the classroom fully trained, and it was necessary to have Erdiston equipped and retooled to carry out that mandate.
Extensive refurbishment of some of the buildings within the entire complex is already in progress.
The Minister of Education was addressing over 300 teachers attending the opening ceremony for four programmes in which they will be engaged. (GC)
