Checks before Budget date

This year’s Budget date is still up in the air.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler told the DAILY NATION in a recent interview that a date had not yet been set because the administration wanted to see just how effective the fiscal adjustment programme had been before putting any new measures in place.
“We have not set a date yet because, as you know, we put a fairly extensive fiscal adjustment programme in place. It got off to a fairly slow start but it is now picking up steam and we obviously want to see that running through to the full extent and to gather as much benefits from it in terms of achieving our targets,” he said.
“We are looking to see what we may want to put into Budgetary Proposals but we are not rushing to do so.
“We are taking our time and analysing everything. We now have before us relatively accurate [fiscal] first quarter data and we are working with that to see where we achieved targets and where we fell down and making adjustments almost week by week. So no specific time has been established as yet.” (GE)
