BARBADOS LIGHT & POWER (BL&P) says it is carefully monitoring the management of space left under the Renewable Energy Rider (RER) as the seven megawatt cap is nearing its capacity.
In a statement from BL&P, the electricity company said it was “advising customers that they are nearing the capacity that had been set for the RER programme, and they are working to manage the application and installation of RE systems more efficiently”.
To that end, the island’s main electricity supplier which is owned by Canadian energy giant Emera, said it was contacting customers with renewable energy applications pending over three months to determine if the capacity reserved for them under the RER programme was still needed.
Meanwhile, businesses in the sector expressed concern that their companies could be threatened unless there was increased capacity provided to those in the alternative energy sector. (GE)
