Officials of Bushy Park Circuit Inc. (BPCI) are happy with the response from local drivers at Sunday’s track day at the newly redeveloped racing facility.

Chairman Mark Maloney, one the drivers, told the DAILY NATION it was put in place for drivers, especially those who had not entered any event to date to get acquainted with the facility, as well as for the respective mechanics to fine tune their respective machines.

Saying that a “race of champions” event is on the itinerary for December at the St Philip track, Maloney said the weekend was great and augurs well for “Drive To Success”, an initiative of the BPCI which will be launched soon.

“The Track Day weekend exercise was also to remind the public that the new facility was also a place for them to come and relax and to enjoy and that the sessions on Sundays where some drivers and fans had become accustomed will return, but with the addition of jumping tents for kids”, Maloney noted.

Nearly 40 drivers took part in the event and were joined by drivers from the Radical Series, who were in Barbados for demonstrations on Radical Cars ahead of the 2015 introduction of the competition series in Barbados.

Spectators were also given the opportunity in a prize draw for drive “hot laps” in the Radical cars with international drivers Harry Blazer and Chris Hall. British rallyist Rob Swann, who contested Sol Rally Barbados this year, was among the foreign drivers seen in action.

“It was not a race meet, but the opportunity for drivers to familiarise themselves with Bushy Park and gain insight into what is required to compete on an FIA-recognised Formula 3 circuit,” Maloney added.

The local drivers catching the eye were Trevor “Electric Micey” Manning, Esuf “Sol” Esuf, Jason Downey, Sean Dowding, and Jason Kirton, and the organisers said the event set the tone for the upcoming race meet slated for October 4 and 5. (TT)
