THIS IS Literacy Week and there is a lot of focus on reading. But even before the week kicked off, this man showed he took literacy seriously.
He was spotted along Tudor Bridge, St Michael with no shirt or shoes but deeply engrossed in a book.
It is unknown what the contents of the book were but it had the man’s undivided attention which in turn attracted the NATION’s attention.
Barbados’ literacy rate has long been a source of pride although its accuracy has been called into question of late. At least this man is small proof the island is still a literate one and that a book can take you away from your current circumstances. An avid reader, indeed. (CA)
