Scam alert


POLICE ARE REPORTING that more Barbadians are being robbed shortly after making withdrawals from their bank, increased numbers are being scammed via the Internet, and more are falling prey to identity theft.

​The three situations have become so serious that yesterday, the police’s public relations officer, Inspector David Welch, appealed to Barbadians to be more vigilant on leaving banks and other financial institutions, to verify who they are dealing with online, and report any matter, however seemingly insignificant, where it appears their identity card was used without their knowledge.

In the first matter, Welch said police were getting more reports involving people taking deposits to a bank or financial institution, being attacked outside of it.

Likewise, people are being attacked after completing transactions.

He revealed that last week a woman was robbed at gunpoint “at her door” after being followed home from a bank where she did a transaction.
