TOP DANCERS

No pain no gain.

Dancers Tiffani Lynch and Shane Alleyne, walked away winners at the recently concluded Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) competition in Winter Gardens, Blackpool, England.

It was the first time a Barbadian couple has scored tops in the competition, and was a rare occurrence of teenagers outdancing the more seasoned adults to win in the under-35 Adult Latin category, where all contestants were required to dance the jive.

Alleyne, 16, suffered an injury to his calf in the semi-final round and admitted that he cried throughout their finals performance.

Those tears of agony turned to joy, when he and his 15-year-old partner Tiffani Lynch were announced as winners.

The weary, but elated, duo returned home earlier this week with the rest of the contingent representing the Barbados Dance Teachers’ Association. It was the fifth time they competed
in the ISTD, but this was their first time in the under-35.

Alleyne and Lynch are preparing to fly out again in December to hopefully continue their winning ways at the World Championships in Paris. (YB)
