The Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) does not intend to let up on the two festering issues engaging their attention.
And although reporting “fruitful” meetings between the union and senior officials at the Ministry of Education yesterday morning and Wednesday evening in relation to Alma Parris and Parkinson schools respectively, president Pedro Shepherd said they intend to “keep the pressure on” if nothing happens in either matter within a reasonable timeframe.
Specific to the Alma Parris affair, Shepherd said 11 of the 17 teachers and some members of the union’s executive met for about 90 minutes with Permanent Secretary Cecile Humphrey, Chief Education Officer Laurie King, deputy chiefs Karen Best and David Clement and Senior Education Officer Fernando Carter at the ministry.
While the action(s) to be taken to help resolve the list of grievances between members and principal Valdez Francis are not yet known, Shepherd described the meeting as “fruitful”, saying that the teachers were given the opportunity to update the ministry on what has been happening at the St Peter school.
