FLYING FISH & COU COU: Standards slipping

A concerned worker has blown the whistle on her workplace, accusing the institution of not living up to the standards it has the reputation for.

The disillusioned worker charged that at the big-name facility nepotism persists, despite efforts to stamp it out, while a number of practices adopted are not up to scratch.

She alleged that one evening a few months ago, the building was locked with a young infant inside. Only when the employee was some distance away and saw the mother approaching the facility that the individual who had closed up realised their mistake. She then had to apologise to the mother.

The source also said that a woman on invalidity benefits from the National Insurance Scheme was hired and paid about $1 500 per month. She is related to the manager of the facility.

Only when her status was discovered and other workers spoke out about it, with someone telling the directors, was the woman let go.

But since her departure another relative of the boss has been hired even though that person, according to our source, lacks the experience and skill to effectively do the job.

The whistleblower also alleged that at the facility some of the young ones are bathed in the kitchen sink to speed up the bathing process.

She said workers are frustrated because they love their jobs and want to do the right thing, but are afraid that the attitude of their boss and some of the practices could endanger the children they are paid to protect.

Promoting disharmony

The reent promotions in a certain institution have not gone down well with staffers who were overlooked, with some charging there was a geographical and political dimension to them.

Cou Cou has been told that a number of those not chosen have been loudly complaining about their exclusion.

One man in particular told some of his sympathetic colleagues that it cannot be fair to him, after he was acting in his district for a number of years and doing a good job – based on the statistical data – that someone with less experience can be promoted over him.

He wondered if his non-selection had more to do with his being a true professional, and therefore being non-aligned.

Of course, no one could answer him as they too were wondering how some individuals with known blemishes during their career could get the nod over others who have been consistently doing a good job and have no known acts of indiscretion on their records.

The men and women who have been ignored for promotion are said to be hoping that some sanity returns to the way things are done in their institution soon.

Group gets last laugh

A group of people are laughing loudly and telling those they care to discuss the issue with that they feel vindicated.

Cou Cou was told that members of the group are looking on at an unfolding situation and saying the circumstances which they complained about were very similar, yet back then many people thought they were overreacting.

Saying that the current matter proves a leopard really can’t change its spots, members of the group, who are still smarting from the manner in which their issue was resolved, are closely watching developments to see if yet again the one at the centre of the controversy will walk away with a mere slap on the wrist.

An outspoken member of this disaffected group is particularly peeved that despite all they went through and the confusion it caused, their nemesis can now be accused by others of doing the same thing and no one in authority has made a determined public effort to deal with the situation.

So peeved is this person that she said that where the current impasse has been allowed to develop to amounts to a dereliction of duty by those in control.
