Barbados’ tennis fraternity is embarrassed by the actions of its biggest star, but the top brass of the sport’s governing body fully expects Darian King to bounce back in a positive way.

President of the Barbados Tennis Association, Dr Raymond Forde, revealed yesterday that King has sent off a private email to the association, apologising to its members, and asking the country’s young players who looked up to him, to forgive his actions.

King, easily Barbados’ top player, and who has led Barbados to its highest team ranking in Davis Cup play, suffered his first negative moment in a young pro career last week, when he was disqualified during an ATP Challenger event, in Virginia, the USA.

The usually unemotional King flung his racket after losing a point, and it subsequently hit a lineswoman in the back. The official fell to the ground in pain, and was forced to seek medical treatment.

King was immediately issued a misconduct warning, lost the match, and was later fined by the ATP, the governing body for men’s tennis on the planet.
