Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development Donville Inniss wants to see the licensing of services provided by all communications companies operating in Barbados.
Commenting on the recent Cable & Wireless acquisition of Columbus Communications, Inniss said in his capacity as the relevant minister, he had received “formal notification”
of the merger and had held discussions with both companies about “some broad issues”.
He said it was left to the Fair Trading Commission to “thoroughly investigate, pronounce, report and make any decisions regarding the proposal.”
But he made it clear he was “not troubled” by the proposed merger.
“I am optimistic that Barbadians will continue to receive telecommunications services that are available in any developed country and this economy will benefit” he said. (GE)
