Force reporting of cybercrime

The recent hacking of banking systems by Bulgarians that resulted in several people losing money is proof that Barbadian financial institutions are not immune to cybercrime.

That observation came from Deon Olton of the Caribbean Cyber Security Centre as he addressed a one-day seminar on Maintaining A Strong Financial Community at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Tuesday.

His audience included high-ranking financial officials, among them Governor of the Central Bank Dr DeLisle Worrell.

Olton called for stricter legislation forcing companies to report when the glitches occurred. He stressed that in Latin America, as a consequence of such legislation, it could easily be calculated how many glitches took place and the financial implication for a business. (SDB Media)
