If the necessary approvals are granted, the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society (BVHS) could be opening the doors of its 24-hour shelter by month end.
Failing that, said chairman Kemar Saffrey, the 35-bed facility for homeless men and women, which will offer limited meals, will open in early January.
He said that while the initial start-up cost would be about $100 000, it would cost between $5 000 and $6 000 to operate monthly.
“We’re looking to open our own shelter next year so there are a number of things we’re doing now because we’re going to need some serious flow because we have a number of people coming,” he said.
He said the organisation had not released a lot of information on the venture to date but disclosed it would be located in The City.
