THE BARBADOS DEFENCE FORCE (BDF) is providing assistance to residents of White Hill, St Andrew.

Yesterday, soldiers moved into the rural village, where the road has collapsed, to shuttle 18 children to Hillaby/Turners Hall Primary School and the Alleyne School in one of their buses.

They have also stationed an ambulance on site to transport residents to a medical facility in case of emergency.

Minister of Transport Michael Lashley announced on Wednesday that the road would be abandoned and the residents relocated.

Speaking to the WEEKEND NATION yesterday about the situation, Lieutenant Colonel Glyne Grannum explained that the BDF had responsibility to provide military aid to civil communities.
