A FORMER HOTELIER is the latest Barbadian to launch an effort to preserve Barbados’ history.

Owner of the Fisherpond Plantation and former proprietor of the Ocean View Hotel, John Chandler, recently launched his publication Hotel Barbados – My Life Of Discretion At The Ocean View.

The 320-page hardback was unveiled during an intimate launch party at his Lancaster Great House, St James residence. It was attended by close friends and family, including legendary entertainer Sir Cliff Richard, who wrote the foreword.

Published by Miller Publishing, the book sought to encapsulate the near 100 years of history of the Ocean View Hotel, which operated along Hastings Main Road in Christ Church from 1898 until its closure in 1996.

Moreover, the publication also captured the history of Chandler’s family, beginning with his birth but also featuring his ancestors as they journeyed from England in 1638 to settle in Barbados. Glossy photographs of former employees, party-goers, fun times and some of Chandler’s escapades were also captured in this publication.
