Beware funeral package steals

A well known risk and financial crime prevention professional believes there are individuals posing as friends to people who have lost loved ones, but in fact they are in cahoots with undertakers to inflate funeral arrangements costs.

According to Monica Brome, these funeral scams are happening almost daily even though some people may have a contrary view.

Speaking to a group of seniors on Wednesday night at the Western Light Church of the Nazarene in West Terrace, St James, Brome highlighted this scam among a host of others where criminals were targeting elderly people.

She said that people were more vulnerable at the time of a death in the family and therefore they were easy prey to the predators waiting to pounce on the unguarded. (SDB Media)
