Muscle Classic tomorrow

Bodybuilding fans are in for their annual pre-Christmas treat when the popular Michael Riley Classic comes off tomorrow at the Combermere School Hall from 6 p.m.

This fifth edition will see Shaquille Lavine, who blew away the field last year to capture the Classic and then the invitational, looking to maintain his rule of the stage.  Lavine had a year of mixing it up with the big boys and with that experience under his belt he will be a greater force to reckon with tomorrow.

Mr Schoolboy Zico Best, who had lauded Lavine as one of his bodybuilding heroes, will be aiming to mimic Lavine’s 2013 performance. Best must prove himself in the Classic to get a shot at the invitational as well as his predecessor on the schoolboy’s throne.

Also making the leap from the schools will be newcomer Sabrina Newton, who will be battling in the highly subscribed figure field where she is expected to create a smoking battle with Rashida Phillips.

The form of Phillips will be key against Newton, who is a fast learner and who has the body to create upsets.

Coordinator Michael Riley was very upbeat about the level of competition as the crowd-drawing Men’s Physique and Bikini Fitness were well populated and he promised patrons a Yuletide feast on stage.

Ramon Broomes will be guest posing, while Rock Qewley out of Trinidad and Tobago and who Bajans had seen in the Roger Boyce show will be putting on an exhibition in Men’s Physique. (KB)
