Maybe Barbados’ premier marathon festival hasn’t run its course after all.
Apparently the Powerade Run Barbados series is doing just fine, at least according to Barbados Tourism Management Inc. senior director of support services Neville Boxhill, who confirmed his body’s commitment to staging next year’s festival.
Boxhill gave the assurance while watching the completion of yesterday’s half-marathon after the entire series was apparently under threat of being shelved.
“I can say without a shadow of a doubt that our commitment to Run Barbados is total as we have already started planning it for next year and we’re doing an extensive relook at the entire festival because nothing is off the table right now,” said Boxhill, who released the tentative dates of December 4, 5 and 6.
“And from a BTMI standpoint this series has been an excellent event. We did have some challenges this year but certainly the public has come out strongly in favour of it and it has been good.
“Of course we still have to do the final numbers but given the challenges we had then I am very pleased with how things went,” he said.
