First-timer Nicole wows at Over-21

THE RICHARD STOUTE Over-21 singing competition provides an opportunity for more mature artistes to have another shot at stardom.

This is the view of Stoute, the organiser and promoter, as he gave an update on the recently concluded contest at Divi Southwinds.

Nicole Clarke emerged victorious from a field of 12 participants.

“This year’s competition was of a high standard with lots of creativity shown by the singers. They were not a carbon copy of the original singers. The young lady who won –  it was her first time in the competition,” he added.

Clarke, although scoring 863 points with the songs When You Tell Me That You Love Me and I Made it Through The Rain, could not sit comfortably because the likes of Damien Smith, Melissa Small and Jonathan Jeffrey, who placed second, third and fourth, respectively, had the ability to spring a surprise.

Smith amassed 814 points for his treatment of The Day and First Time, Small 812 for If I Could and Baby Come To Me, and Jeffrey 810 doing It’s A Man World and You And I.

“I don’t think the people who attended the show could pick a winner. I was also happy with the attendance and it gave those past their 20s a chance to show that they can come back.

“It gives them an opportunity to reach for the stars. I am looking forward to next year,” Stoute said. (JS)
