Pink was the colour of choice when the Barbados Turf Club held the W.C. Bill Marshall DFC SCM Memorial Race Day last Saturday at the Garrison Savannah.
Trainer Edward Walcott Jr and apprentice Jarelle Beckles, whose form had endured a prolonged battering, finally, reacquainted themselves with the winner’s enclosure.
Walcott teamed up with Springhead Stable’s first-call rider Antonio Bishop and their filly Sparkling to celebrate the combination’s first win together for the year. This combination, having last entered winner’s enclosure on Boxing Day with Knight Rider in 2013, starred on the third day’s card winning two races.
For trainer Walcott, Sparkling’s success in race six, the Oba Dove Handicap, for maidens rated 0-50 over 1 100 metres, could not be more timely for this very popular stable who up until then had only won twice this year with Zoom under (Affrie Ward) in January and Galaxy (Anderson Trotman) the following month.
