Husbands winning in the pain

AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE is the only way that champion jockey Patrick Husbands could describe the months ahead for him.

Arguably Barbados’ most successful jockey, Husbands returned home on Tuesday after securing the Rider Of The Year title for the seventh time with 170 wins in 2014 at Woodbine racetrack in Canada.

Speaking to the media at the Grantley Adams International Airport, he told of the intense pain he was experiencing.

A month into the 2013 season the ace jockey broke his leg when A Tough Buck collapsed with heatstroke after finishing a six-furlong event, trapping him underneath.

Following surgery and an almost four-month break, he returned to the saddle in September last year. However, even after the latest triumph, Husbands has complained of recurring pain in his leg. (SDB Media)
