Lenstec being sued

ONE OF BARBADOS’ leading manufacturers is facing a potentially damaging lawsuit overseas.

Lenstec (Barbados) Inc., which employs about 200 Barbadians to produce and export $40 million in implantable lenses to 50 markets annually – and its American parent Lenstec Inc. – are being sued by European competitor Oculentis IP BV for alleged “patent infringement” in the United Kindgom.

Investigations revealed that on September 8, Oculentis, which called itself “a leading manufacturer and supplier of innovative intraocular lenses with its production and research and development facilities in Eerbeek, the Netherlands”, started legal proceedings against the two Lenstec companies in the High Court of Justice in England, claiming infringement of its UK patent GB 2 502 474.
