Tourism business looks promising

EXECUTIVE VICE-PRESIDENT of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), Sue Springer, has painted a promising picture of tourism business from Barbados’ major source markets.

In her report to the association’s final quarterly meeting for the year at Hilton Barbados yesterday, Springer said already for the first five days of December there were increases in business of 71 per cent in Canada, 15.3 per cent in the United States and 35.4 in the United Kingdom.

suespringerThe latter remained Barbados’ No. 1 market, with year to date figures for 2014 exceeding those for 2012 by almost 9 000 visitors.

It was a further indicator of a generally satisfactory performance for the year.

The BHTA official highlighted new tourism products due to come on stream such as the January opening of Sandals hotel, the ground-breaking for the new luxury villa project at Settlers Beach, and for the Hyatt hotel in March, as well as the opening of Port Ferdinand. (GC)
