Ten-year-old Darien Benn has emerged as a player to watch after his impressive showing in the recent Massy United Insurance Barbados Junior Open, which was played at the Barbados Squash Club at Marine Gardens.
Competing in the Boys’ Under-11 and Boys’ Under-13 categories, the top-seeded Benn stormed through the tournament without dropping a game and claimed championship trophies in both divisions.
In the Under-11 division, Benn defeated Marcus Jordan in the quarter-finals 11-2, 11-5, 13-11, and then dispatched Vincentian Malachi McMaster 11-1, 11-6, 11-2 in the semi-finals before overcoming Malachi’s older brother, Jlan McMaster in the final, also in straight games, 11-6, 11-1, 11-7.
Number two seed Alex Stewart defeated Malachi McMaster 11-9, 11-4, 3-11, 11-8 to finish third, while Marcus Jordan won the Consolation plate by beating Aidan Parris 11-8, 11-5, 11-8.
