DEAR CHRISTINE: I don’t want him to leave me

Dear Christine,

Greetings to you and please do have a wonderful 2015.

I have been seeing a young man for the past four years and I can truly say that we’ve had our good times and bad times.

Recently, I got the feeling that things were not so great between us and I later learned that he was dealing with another girl. When I questioned him, he denied it. He and I have been sexually active for a year and three months now, and from what I gathered, he has been playing around with this girl for the past six months.

During the four years of our relationship, I made one mistake – I kissed another guy. Now, although he has done much more than this, he says we are finished.

Christine, it is not fair. I forgave him, but he insists that we are finished because of what I did. Please tell me what to do. I cannot let four years end just like this.

– P.N.

Dear P.N.,

Move on! This man was looking for an excuse to leave you and he found one – even though it may be considered a weak one.

You say you cannot let four years end just like this, but you already know that he has not always been faithful during those four years.

If he wants to go, let him go. You shouldn’t have to be begging someone to stick around if they want to leave.

Although you may care for him, I do not see why you should grovel for forgiveness, especially from one who has been playing around with another. You’ve apologised and you cannot do anything else about the situation.

I suspect anyway that if he came back, even willingly, you would have to spend your life with that one mistake hanging over your head by way of painful reminders from him.

– CHRISTINE
