The Men’s Educational Support Association (MESA) has urged the authorities to urgently review the cases of “hundreds” of men on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds, charging that there could be several human rights breaches.

“My information is that about 400 of the men at Dodds are on remand and it is said that some people have been there for up to ten years,” MESA’s head Ralph Boyce told the SATURDAY SUN yesterday.

“But even a year on remand with no access to a court hearing could be a denial of legal rights and a breach of human rights and is totally unacceptable.

“Some people say it depends on the circumstance of the case, but it cannot be a year or two years before someone is brought to trial. That cannot be considered a reasonable time.”
