No gas for meals

There was chaos in the kitchens along the West Coast for the last three days as many businesses were without natural gas and unable to prepare the usual elaborate Christmas spread for guests.

Hotels such as Sandy Lane, Royal Pavilion and Cobblers Cove and restaurants Nishi, Mews, Lone Star and Mullins were literally cooking without gas and scrambling to prepare alternative cold meals because of a shut-off in the natural gas supply.

When a NATION team visited businesses along that tourist belt yesterday, the cry was the same – there were many mouths to feed but not enough hot meals for the tables.

Some operators resorted to renting electric and gas stoves, purchasing gas bottles, even cooking on hot plates, barbecue grills and in microwaves, but several still could not fulfil the demands of their guests and ended up with empty tables and losing thousands of dollars.
