THE QUEEN Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has taken a beating from chikungunya, but there’s no crisis at Barbados’ premier health-care institution.

That’s the assessment of the hospital’s chief executive officer, Dr Dexter James, who said yesterday that the mosquito-borne disease had been causing heavy absenteeism in “all categories of staff across all departments”.

He added there had been some improvements in the staff turnout in the last couple of weeks and the current situation was not at crisis level.
