DISRUPTION TO THE start of the new school term is still very “real”.
That warning is coming from president of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), Pedro Shepherd, following a brief meeting at the Ministry of Education with senior officials this morning.
The 11-member contingent filed out minutes after the meeting got under way and reported they were no clearer on the way forward for Parkinson Memorial and Alma Parris secondary schools.
While the union was informed that an investigation has started into the affairs at Parkinson and that “a course of action” is being followed at Alma Parris, the ministry has indicated that no timelines can be given in either case.
Following a separate meeting at the union’s Merryhill, St Michael headquarters, Shepherd said a meeting is to be convened with the wider membership of the BUT “shortly” to consult with and update them “on the matters before us, as well as other matters within education which we believe require attention”.
