CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) – Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla hit half-centuries as South Africa threatened to cash in where the West Indies missed out on day two of the third and final cricket test at Newlands today.

While the West Indies could muster only 329 after winning the toss and electing to bat first on a good pitch, South Africa closed the second day on 227 for three, with Amla unbeaten on 55 and AB de Villiers looking dangerous on 32 not out.

After Dale Steyn picked up two of the four remaining West Indian wickets in the morning to record figures of four for 78 and consigned the tourists to a below-par total, Alviro Petersen scored 42 and Du Plessis made 68 in a strong South African reply.

Summarised scores: West Indies 329 in 99.5 overs (Jermaine Blackwood 56, Leon Johnson 54, Denesh Ramdin 53, Devon Smith 47, Marlon Samuels 43; Dale Steyn 4-78, Simon Harmer 3-67). South Africa 227-3 in 68.3 overs (Faf du Plessis 68, Hashim Amla 55 not out). West Indies lead by 102 runs.
