Yesterday’s action by the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) has been deemed as tantamount to a withdrawal of labour, and “will be so treated”.

That was the warning from Minister of Education Ronald Jones, who was speaking on the absence of what he said were 800 of the 3 100 teachers in the service from the classroom for the morning session of the first day of school for students.

“It is a withdrawal of labour,” Jones told the MIDWEEK NATION, while complimenting all the teachers who “saw the need to be at school and to carry out the appropriate functions”.

The minister said they received correspondence about yesterday’s meeting at 2 p.m. on Monday, and whatever else they knew was in the media.
