AMIDST sorrow, there was joy and light as the People’s Cathedral staged its annual Christmas production last week.
The event, entitled A Great Light, ran for four days starting December 28 and ended last Sunday with two shows at 5 p.m and 7:30 p.m. at the Bishop’s Court Hill, St Michael church.
This year’s production replaced the popular Singing Tree outreach and coincided with the passing of the church’s patriarch, Dr Holmes Williams.
However, Angela Christie, music director and producer, said the change was just to bring a bit of freshness to the annual exercise.
“We just felt that we needed to have something different and fresh for the presentation this year. That is why we went with A Great Light.”
The construction featured a cast of 150 and comprised of five choirs: the children’s choir, Alpha, the youth, women’s and men’s choirs and the People’s Cathedral Choir.
Dancers featured were Maschola and Youth Synergy Warfare Worship Dancers who supported the dramatic presentation of the birth of Jesus.
“I entitled it A Great Light based on Isaiah 9:2 and 6: ‘The people walking in darkness have seen the light . . . .’ We had a full congregation in the Cathedral itself most of the nights.”
Christie also said members felt the absence of Williams who died during the season.
“We had to leave out one of presentations scheduled for December 29 which was the same day of his home-going funeral,” she added. (JS)
