Byer seeking NUPW talks

A late request by the Minister of Labour for a meeting may determine whether a widespread march of protest by Government workers takes place on Tuesday.

President of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Walter Maloney, revealed that Minister Senator Esther Byer had written the trade union requesting a meeting on Monday, the day before the intended protest action.

The NUPW, which is fighting for the rights of laid-off National Conservation Commission workers, had planned a march of protest on Tuesday, the day the House of Assembly resumes sitting following the Christmas recess.
