A new development has taken place that will affect where the 90 Nigerian students will be housed in the immediate future.
One of them was tested for a highly infectious skin infection called scabies. This was discovered yesterday after tests were done on the individual.
Scabies is spread by direct skin-to-skin contact caused by an infestation by the itch mite sarcoptes scabiei. A severe and relentless itch is the predominant symptom of scabies. Sexual contact is the most common form of transmission among sexually active young people.
As the incubation period for scabies is one week to 14 days, it is possible that the infected person arrived here with it. (RRM/HLE)
