TURNS OUT Darian King doesn’t have to play the slams to be ranked right behind Roger Federer.

The accolades just keep pouring in for Barbados’ top tennis pro as the world no. 311 just barely missed out on being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of last year’s Davis Cup season.

King, 22, finished second in the unofficial awards posted on the competition’s website, coming in behind eventual winner “Fedrinka” – the name given to the Swiss combo of Federer and Stanislas Warwinka, who led Switzerland to the Davis Cup title.

It was in clear recognition of one of the truly great individual performances witnessed in last year’s Davis Cup, where King was just one of three players to win all six of his singles rubbers en route to leading Barbados to its first ever Americas Group II title. (JM)
