Inniss: Time to cut prices

LOCAL COMPANIES should give consumers a cheaper deal, now that the price of petroleum products is on a downward trend.

Minister of Industry Donville Inniss made this appeal yesterday, ahead of a price reduction that became effective from midnight.

“There has been a lot of noise about the reduction in petroleum prices on the international market and the need for Government to reduce prices,” Inniss told the DAILY NATION. “I am not hearing any calls for the private sector to reduce prices commensurately.

“My hope is that the private sector will respond by seeking to reduce their prices because reduced prices for petroleum products will translate into reduced unit costs for production.”
