Fifty-two of the island’s best volleyballers put on an exhibition of 10 exciting sets when the Barbados Volleyball Association staged two All Stars games at the Wildey Gymnasium on Sunday night.

A large crowd turned out for the first round of matches and thoroughly enjoyed the matches as former teammates battled on opposite sides of the net.

The women’s match saw Hammer Time, led by Anthazia Mason and Anicia Wood, nullifying the threats from Assassins’ Shari Matthews, Fabia Greaves and a consistent Talya Layne to win game one 25-23, 21-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-10.

The men’s game was even more exciting with Fabian Cox, Shawn Simpson and Chioke Holder combining for the Wolf Pack to pip the Kings 24-26, 28-26, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12 with Nicholas Matthias, Mark Lewis and Ammuniki Wood countering strong.

The second games will be staged next Sunday with the BVA holding the series to help raise funds for the junior volleyball programmes. (KB)
