Oval ready

The mecca of cricket is back in business.

And now, the Barmy Army can breathe a collective sigh of relief. So can the Barbados Pride.

The WEEKEND NATION can reveal today that Kensington Oval will be in tip-top shape to host England in the much-awaited Test match from May 1 to 5. In addition, defending champions Barbados will also get to call the Oval home for its three scheduled home matches in the West Indies Cricket Board’s Professional Cricket League (PCL), which resumes next month.

Three months ago, Kensington Oval’s multimillion-dollar turf was overrun with the dreaded goose “grass” and deemed unfit for play, forcing Barbados to play a home match at the Windward Cricket Club in St Philip, and also seriously jeopardising the hosting of the English in the third and final Test of their 2015 Caribbean tour.
