If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, that man’s religion is in vain.
So the tongue is a little member and boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! But no human being can tame the tongue – a restless evil, full of deadly poison. – James 1: 26; James 3: 5, 8.
WHEN WIILL WEST INDIES opening batsman Chris Gayle shut his mouth and stop speaking out of turn in public?
His recent outburst was after the second Twenty20 match in South Africa when he made his feelings known because the West Indies selectors left Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard out of the World Cup squad.
Gayle was totally out of place and must know that he is not a selector and cannot tell the selectors who to select.
It is time that someone tells Gayle to close his mouth. It is time he is disciplined by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for his mouthings. I hope that when the board acts, the politicians in the region do not get involved.
If he was playing for England, he would have been axed long ago for his mouthings.
There have been other contentious issues through Gayle’s career such as when he clashed with the WICB after the then coach Ottis Gibson’s comments on the senior players at the 2011 World Cup when the West Indies were knocked out at the quarter-final stage.
Following the dropping of Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul and himself for the home One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, Gayle labelled Gibson a “loser”, accusing him of undermining the players’ confidence.
Gayle needs to learn from Darren Sammy, who refused to be drawn into the debate about the axing of Bravo and Pollard.
We must congratulate Clive Lloyd for the decision by the selectors to leave them out. Lloyd’s argument is a very strong one, in that we, West Indies, have been ranked at number eight for some time now, are not going forward and cannot go forward with these players.
I think that Denesh Ramdin should not be playing in all three forms of the game. We have to look for a wicketkeeper/batsman as of now. Are they any around? You will never know until someone is given a chance.
