SOME OF THE MOST FIT, mature people in Barbados were running, walking and playing shots at the University of the West Indies on Wednesday, Errol Barrow Day.

The occasion was the annual Barbados Masters and Seniors Athletic Club fun day where the club’s four districts – Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald – competed against each other.

ed-bushellPresident Ed Bushell said the members usually trained together but the fun day was a way for them to compete against each other under a friendly banner.

He said most of the members were national athletes.

“Most of the people here compete on a national or international level and we only deal with gold medals, like when we sent four members to Florida for the Senior Games there and they came back with nine gold medals,” he said.

Bushell said the club members were currently in training for the World Senior Games in Paris, France, come August but for now, they were going to relax and have some competitive fun with lime and spoon races, sack races, dominoes, cricket and a mile walk, among other activities.
